An Mi-Ryung

Kim Yoon-Shin
Abstract
This study was conducted to examine how esthetician¡¯s demographic characteristics and job-related environmental factors affect their sanitary behavior. To measure sanitary behaviour a survey was conducted to 225 estheticians aged 20 to 37 years working in either Seoul or Kyunggi Province during the period between 17 March to 13 May in 2010. The present study investigated 6 demographic variables including age, educational level, marital status, monthly income level, work location (Seoul or Kyunggi Province) and the length of career as an esthetician, and 7 job-related environmental variables such as qualifications as an esthetician, medical institutions they work, number of beds at work, where they were trained for sanitary practice, level of job satisfaction, ventilation methods at work and frequency of washing uniforms. Data were analysed using either t-test or oneway ANOVA with PASW statistical package program. It was found that all 7 job-related environmental variables significantly affect sanitary behaviour of estheticians. Of 6 demographic variables, however, educational level, marital status, monthly income level and where they work were found to be significant factors. It is interesting to note that age and the length of career as an esthetician were not linked with level of sanitary behaviour.
